We have never slept on a mattress without some type of mattress protector. If you think about it, you can never truly clean a mattress. You have it for years too. So, over time, you have a ton of dust, dust mites, dead skin cells, and allergens build up in your mattress; yuck! This is a different type of mattress protector too. It encases your entire mattress. Talk about the ultimate protection. I suggest using a slip on mattress protector over this one. It is easier to wash a slip on one, and then you have the ultimate protection for your mattress. It should definitely help lengthen your mattress life. This particular mattress encasement is made out of polyester that has been laminated in polyurethane. The zipper on this mattress protector was done well. All of the stitching was done tight and on point, and there was no odd odor to this product upon arrival. This material is actually pretty soft as well. It is not a noisy fabric either. It won’t add that annoying rustling sound to your bed. I hate that. The two sides are different. One side is a softer stretchier side, and the other is the coated side. You cannot mistake them. Standing the mattress on end will make it easier to put on. This unit is water resistant not waterproof. I am really happy with the quality of construction. They do offer it in all sizes as well, even Twin XL. Mine arrived in perfect condition. I am comfortable recommending this product.
