You can leave them displayed for a while, but it is bacteria, and will continue to grow, and eventually break down. Then you can change it out later with the pictures.

Question: Can I leave these plates in the display case after the bacteria has grown? I plan on super gluing the lids just in case. I would hate to walk in one day and find one of the dishes has blown its’ lid!! There is no direct light into the case. If they need to be disposed of, I *plan* on taking photos to post in the case to replace. However, I think it will create a much better visual if I can leave the dishes in the case.

If you open the petrie dishes, you are opening up bacteria, etc.. At this point I would wear gloves and a mask. You can do scrapings and look under a microscope or you can get a newer digital version microscope for looking at larger items, it’s more handheld, or use a high power magnifying glass.
